Fyrbird with extra fire & Zero-Hum

We always thought of the Fyrbird pickup as sounding a little on the feeble side, so we put some extra fire in it's belly.  First we gave it's magnets more guts, not stronger magnetism.  And then we concentrated the magnetic line of force into the coils space where it produces more inductance and a higher Q factor.  All that means a sound with more guts and more of everything.

It still has more jangle and chime along with additional touch sensitivity and dynamic range, it's a very exciting and satisfying big little performer that punches well above it's size.

There are Alnico-3 bar magnets on edge which together form a magnet stagger so you will experience exceptional string volume balance.

We also designed a far more robust coil bobbin which stops microphonic feedback in it's tracks.

 

Technical & Application info:

Our pickups are over engineered and designed carefully so that wax potting has no detrimental effect on sound.  All Kinman's are wax potted and you have the freedom to utterly saturated their sound in distortion without a hint of microphonic feedback.
 
Our covers are made of Nickel-Silver so there is no degradation of tonal nuances.
 
Pole spreads
  • 53mm bridge pickups with vintage Stratocaster bridge
  • 50mm bridge pickup for all other bridges -and- neck pickup with vintage Stratocaster bridge
  • 47.5mm neck pickup with all other bridges

Mounting hardware (included)

  • Two 3-48 UNC mounting screws.  Phillips countersunk head.  Can be driven into cavity floor or our mounting plate, below.
  • Silicon rubber tube springs

Options

Non-magnetic mounting plate kit for mounting to the floor of the cavity.  Does not distort the magnetic field or impact on sonic performance.  Screw heads do not poke up from the cover so no more injuries to fingers.

Hook-up wires

  • Robust single wires for soldering, requires effective shielding in wiring tunnels to prevent electrical buzz
  • 2 or 3 conductor shielded cable to facilitate phase reversing.  Wiring tunnel shielding not required
  • All the above with or without Kinman Harness Plug.

Cover options

  • Polished Nickel-Silver.  Best sonic performance and immunity to feedback screech.  Suitable for relicing and deliberate aging
  • Will lose it's mirror-like polish naturally in a few months unless you maintain it with occasional application of clear liquid guitar polish
  • Gold plated with real Gold which has magnetic Nickel plating under the gold so expect a slight loss of performance and susceptibility to feedback screech under extremely high gain
  • With and without Kinman logo

Pot & Capacitor values

  • Best with 500k Ohm volume pot. 
  • Tone pot is usually the same value as the volume but for a little more top end brightness can be 1meg or No-Load.
  • Stock pots can actually measure as low as 262k.  Pots in our Goodbye-Soldering Harness are guaranteed to measure no less that 450k.
  • Normal tone cap value of 0.022uF, 63 ~ 100 volt Polyester.  Smaller uF value lessen the severity of Treble cut, higher values increase it.
  • The voltage rating of Caps is not important but 63 ~ 100 volt have thicker lead wires that are easy to work with.

Output Polarity: 

  • in-phase with Gibson and Copy humbuckers
  • in-phase with all other Kinman pickups
  • opposite phase to Fender Strat

We highly recommend consulting the Install Guide in the Technical section even if you think you know it all.  Kinmans' require specialized knowledge and sometimes there is updated info.  There is also a handy wiring diagram available.
